Kids Helping Kids
Mindful Littles is an organization based in Orinda, California, that aims to help young children, “littles,” become more empathetic and mindful by coordinating meaningful educational service projects. We are so grateful to Mindful Littles for partnering with COHH this winter and bringing together forty families to assemble toiletry kits for the students at our school.
Parents and children worked together to put toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss (generously donated by Lamorinda Toothbuds), andmore into pouches, and then decorated the pouches with colorful stickers. Tucked into each kit also is a special note containing a “mindful wish,” and a Polaroid photo from each family. The children at the event wished for the children in Haiti to have clean water, love, friendship, and much more. The children also learned about Haitian food, danced to Haitian music, and celebrated the similarities and differences between themselves and children in Haiti.
One participant, 7-year old Caden, was so moved by what he learned about Haiti that he has undertaken to raise money on his own for Center of Hope (Haiti). Armed with homemade chocolate chip cookies, brownies, muffins, lemonade, and hot cider, Caden and his sister Olivia set up a bake sale outside their elementary school and became enthusiastic ambassadors for COHH. Their passion was contagious and they raised close to $100! He and his buddies are planning another sale soon.
A huge thank you to Mindful Littles, the families, and especially to Caden and Olivia for showing that even “littles” can have a big impact!
