Julie Atkinson Named President of COHH
The Center of Hope (Haiti), Inc. is pleased to announce that Julie Atkinson has been named as President and a member of the Board of Directors of Center of Hope (Haiti), Inc. effective as of March 23, 2020. Julie succeeds Mark Newton as President. Julie joined the Center of Hope (Haiti), Inc. February 28, 2015 as the Executive Director. Mark Newton, who will remain a member of the Board of Directors, commented, "Julie has done a splendid job as Executive Director and I know she will continue to be an energetic contributor to the success of COHH." "It has been a privilege to work with our Board on the many challenges of COHH," says Julie."I am looking forward to my continued work with the Board and our many supporters to achieve a better life for the children we seek to educate and create a brighter future." Julie Atkinson has over fifteen years of experience in business and law. After graduating from Harvard University, she joined the Boston Consulting Group as an associate. Ms. Atkinson is also a graduate of Stanford Law School. She practiced law at Davis Polk & Wardwell as well as Latham & Watkins, and clerked for judges in the Southern District of California and on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition, Ms. Atkinson spent five years as a staff attorney for the Ninth Circuit working on asylum cases. She has experience working with nonprofit organizations on education and poverty issues, most recently working with Kiva Microfunds in San Francisco, California, and SchoolWish.org. Ms. Atkinson has traveled extensively in Asia, South America, and Europe, and has studied several foreign languages.
The Center of Hope (Haiti), Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Center of Hope (Haiti) provides cultural, economic, social, financial and advisory resources to develop and maintain the Center of Hope, an orphanage and school for children in Hinche, Haiti. The orphanage is dedicated to fostering livelihood and hope for the future of orphaned children of Haiti by providing shelter, education, nutrition, emotional security, healthcare and life skills to the children and their caregivers. Center of Hope (Haiti), through a volunteer Board of Directors and Officers, coordinates resources, including volunteer services and contributions, in support of the orphanage.
