Hope Is A Reality Within Us

At the beginning of 2017, our hopes for the start of construction on building number2 of our elementary and secondary school were mostly prayers. We did not have an obvious path to funding for the building although the need was the impending growth of the school into the seventh grade in the fall of 2017. Our construction partner, the Building Goodness Foundation assured us that if we raised the funds, they were ready to start.

Our first building had been completed at a cost less than the budget and we had some savings from that effort. Our challenge was to raise another $100,000 to put us in a position to start construction and a challenge to raise the balance. We decided to ask several of our existing donors to commit to give $5,000 each to raise the required $100,000. We knew that each would give as they were able with some having to enlist the support of others. Such indeed was the case.

Within a 30-day period, we had commitments for $97,000! We are thankful for all of our donors. Some wrote checks with corporate matching funds. Some wrote checks with a promise to support our Gala in the fall. Some pooled their funds from $5.00 to $1,200.00 to build a pool of $5,000. Some held “Jeans Day” at their employer to raise funds. Some raised funds at their churches. Each was determined to help get the construction on the second building started. On May 4, 2017 we broke ground for the construction of our second building. We are not out of the financial woods. We need to raise the balance of the funds to complete construction of our second building.
