For Whom The Bell Tolls – School Has Begun
The COHH school opened for the 2019-2020 school year on Monday, September 9, 2019 with 128 children in grades 1 through 9. They were welcomed by a staff of 34 adults, including, teachers, administrators, security, maintenace and food service people. They were also welcomed by the site of a third classroom building that is under construction. It is expected to be completed and occupied by the end of January 2020.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Center of Hope (Haiti), Inc. None of our children were born at the time COHH was formed. The oldest children, now in 9th grade, came to us in the first grade from families that could not otherwise send their childen to school. The children did not know how to read or write and neither did their caregivers. Today, the children speak several languages and are knowledgeable about math, science, and social media. They are on track to complete high school and go on to college.
The pictures below are reminders of how far COHH and the children have progressed. We have been blessed not only with children that are determined to learn, but also with caregivers who want them to learn. We appreciate the sacrifices made in every household to allow the children to gain an education. We also appreciate the work of our teachers and staff to facilitate the education of our children. To our donors and supporters, we say "thank you for your contributions and the great things you have helped us do in the Hinche community."
