A Little Help From Our Friends
COHH and the Building Goodness Foundation are partnering to build a new school at COHH. We are in the design stage of the project and not expected to break ground until early next year. However, our enrollment at our school increases by one classroom each year and we are running out of alternative space for classrooms. As a temporary measure, we are installing temporary partitions in our multi-purpose space and our cafeteria to create additional classroom space.
BGF sent a team to our site - Daniel Lelanne (translator), Curt Hoffman, Bos Sobner, Bos Ali - to install the partitions. "Bos" is an honorific title used for workmen/ craftsmen in Haiti The team worked the week of August 31 – September 6 to complete the tasks. We will now have adequate space for grades 1-5 and an additional room, if needed for other activity. The partitions will now be painted and the rooms made ready for the opening of the new school year on September 14th. We extend a hearty and well-deserved “Thank you” to the team and to our friends at BGF for their help on this project. It a blessing for COHH and our children.
A year ago, we did not know how we would solve our space problem. In that time, we have come to know BGF and members of their team. We have embarked upon our design and development and we have begun fundraising to pay for the construction of the new school. Our fundraising has been bolstered by a $250,000 matching fund commitment. We are encouraging donations in any amount in order to achieve the 100% matching fund. Our total project is expected to cost between $750,000-$800,000.
