James L. Lipscomb Receives 2008 Hope Award At Third Annual Gala
November, 2008 (New York). At its Third Annual Gala at The Ballroom at The Prince George Hotel in New York City, COHH presented its Hope Award to James L. Lipscomb, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of MetLife, Inc. and a member of the Advisory Board of COHH The Gala was held for the third year to help raise funds for developing and operating an orphanage in Hinche, Haiti for two hundred children. The Hope Award, introduced at the Inaugural Gala, was presented to Mr. Lipscomb in recognition of his contributions to the underprivileged at home and abroad, consistent with the mission of COHH.
The Gala was attended by guests from across the country and included corporate, legal and local community representation. “We are honored to have James as the recipient of our Hope Award,” said Emmanuel St. Juste, Chairman of the Board of COHH. “He has provided tireless leadership for the development of the orphanage. We thank God for sending him our way.” The highlight of the evening was Mr. Lipscomb's acceptance of the award via video from the orphanage site in Hinche.

Hugh B. Price, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Urban League and currently the John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs Visiting Professor of Public and International Affairs in the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, provided the keynote speech for the evening. Mr. Price underscored the importance of educating our children and providing access to training and development. “There is no one more qualified to speak to the issues of the underprivileged than Hugh Price,” said James Lipscomb. “He delivered a strong message this evening that we all needed to hear – indeed, our country needs to hear.”
The evening closed with a powerful video slideshow of COHH’s work in Hinche with the soundtrack of “The Impossible Dream” performed by Luther Vandross. The video can viewed on the COHH website.
